There is "free banking" still... just now the banks are USA, Russia, UK, Japan, Hong Kong, Mexico, India, China, etc..... each competing with each other in a "free banking" environment.

The price you pay for always being the person you want to be, is it gives license to other people to not want to be with you.
If you are happy to have people not want to be with you, then being the person you want to be won't make you unhappy.
But people can change what they want... so if you learn to like being the type of person people want to be with, then you can also find happiness.
